An Important Announcement from State Director Patty Haskins...

​

We were informed this fall, after the calendar was set for the year, that Academy for Discovery at Lakewood could not host this year’s state bowl.  After working through our list of potential hosts, Mr. Thomas Smigiel, Principal of Granby High School, offered to host.  Due to the timing of this announcement, some adjustments to our previous State Bowl structure in order for us to continue to plan for an in-person bowl.  The following are some of the changes:

• The 2023 VAFPS State Bowl will be held as a one day in-person event (Saturday, April 22)

 

Prior to the in-person event:

• Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS) teams and individuals will complete their booklet writing one week prior to the in-person gathering in similar fashion to the previous virtual State Bowls

At the in-person event:

• All GIPS teams and individuals will be required to participate in Presentation of Action Plan skits in order to be eligible for awards or advancement to IC

  • Senior Division teams and individuals will complete their skits directly following the opening ceremony and then receive training for scoring Middle and Junior Division skits

  • Middle and Junior Division competitors will work on their props and costumes and rehearsing their skits directly following the presentation of Senior skits

• Scenario Writing first place winners will have their winning stories read on-site at the awards ceremony

• Community Problem Solving teams will present their projects in a CmPS Fair

• Visual Arts Component pilot competitor will present project in arts display
