Student wins Mover & Shaker Award

Robert Corvin, a student from Maury High School in Norfolk, became only the second FPSer in the history of Future Problem Solving of Virginia to win the coveted Mover & Shaker Award. Robert was instrumental in bringing the 2002 state bowl to Norfolk.

The Mover & Shaker Award was created in the first year of the program to recognize outstanding individuals who demonstrated extraordinary commitment and problem solving, Coaches, school administrators, parents, and volunteers have received the award in the past. It is the highest noncompetitive FPS honor in Virginia.

The Executive Board of Future Problem Solving lauded Robert Corvin for his persistence, creativity, team spirit, and contribution to the program by securing a state bowl site bid for his school and assisting in the planning and execution of the bowl. He will be added to the permanent roll of Movers & Shakers who have strengthened and sustained our program over the years.

Franklin Senior awarded 2002 scholarship

Brenton Moseley, a Franklin High School student headed for Virginia Military Institute, won this year's $750 Future Problem Solving of Virginia college scholarship. He plans to use the problem solving skills he acquired during eight years of FPS training (each year earning a state bowl bid) as an officer in the armed forces.

Brenton has won first place state and international recognition in both team and Community Problem Solving competitions. He is still active in a CmPS project he and his teammates started to recycle paper.

A leader in both academic and sports, Brenton was named one of the "Twelve Outstanding Seniors" in his class by Franklin High teachers and administrators and "Most Likely to Succeed" by his peers. His teachers described Brenton as focused, well-rounded, honest, caring, and responsible: "the best of the best."
